Girona Guide for «NZZ am Sonntag»

After a short trip to Girona last autumn, I was inspired to write a travel article about the Spanish city for the magazine of Swiss Sunday newspaper “NZZ am Sonntag”. Read the full article (in German) in the PDF or on NZZ Bellevue – and find some of my favourite places alongside some photographs from my trip down below.

View of the grand stone staircase and baroque façade of Sant Domenec, bathed in soft autumn light.

Girona boasts a stunning old town with steep stairs, winding alleys and historial structures.

Rooftop view over Girona’s old town with terracotta tiles and the bell tower of the Basilica of Sant Feliu under a pale sky.
Cozy bedroom at Palau Fugit with rattan headboard, soft lighting, and open balcony doors.

Palau Fugit – a former palazzo in the heart of Girona – is an excellent place to stay.

Intimate café setting with bistro chairs and a view onto a quiet courtyard near Girona’s Sant Domènec stairs.

Café le Bistrot is located right at the stairs leading up to Sant Domènec.

Warm interior of Cipresaia restaurant featuring shelves of wine bottles and elegantly set dining tables.

On the corner of the same street as Palau Fugit, Cipresaia serves great food an wine. We had dinner here and I might have ordered their dessert twice, it was so good.

Iberian ham croquette served at Restaurant Normal.

Another great option: Restaurant Normal, across the street from Cipresaia.
