Saying farewell to Tegel Airport

My last flight from Tegel happened in October 2020, a few weeks before its final closing. I always had a special fondness for this airport. Not only from an aesthetic and architectural standpoint but also because it was simply very practical. When I still lived in Berlin and was flying into Zurich frequently, I appreciated the compactness of the airport and was always amazed at how quickly you get from the cab or bus through security and to the gate.

For me Tegel is also filled with personal memories. From TXL I took trips from that took me to New York and Sydney. I once lived close to the airport and had the pleasure of seeing the airplanes flying into Tegel from the windows of my apartment. I also went on a walk there once, swam with the view of landing and departing airplanes in the Flughafensee and last, but not least, it was the place where I embraced someone very special for the very first time – and where I boarded a plane with a one-way ticket to Zurich some months later.

To celebrate all this and to get a good last look, I went on a stroll along the visitors terrace before my very last flight. It was a cold and rainy day, but I did not mind and managed to snap a few pictures. Bye, bye Tegel. Thank you for always feeling safe and for all the memories.
