Homemade Granola
I find buying granola at the store frustrating. Refined sugar or artificial sweeteners are often one of the main ingredients. Those made with honey or maple syrup come with astronomical prices. Luckily, making granola at home is simple, quick, and gives you complete control over the ingredients.
This recipe is a solid base I’ve developed over the years. Feel free to experiment—add crushed banana chips, cocoa nibs, or swap in your favorite nuts and seeds. You can adjust the sweetness by changing the amount of maple syrup and honey, or omit the honey for a vegan version.
Ingredients
300 g rolled oats
1 tablespoon olive oil
100 ml maple syrup
2 teaspoons honey (optional for a vegan version)
A pinch of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
A handful of almonds or other nuts, roughly chopped
100 g raisins (optional)
Method
Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F).
Mix all ingredients except the raisins in a large bowl until well combined.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread the mixture evenly.
Bake for 15–20 minutes. Depending on your oven, you might want to stir once halfway through to ensure even toasting.
Remove from the oven, add the raisins, and let the granola cool completely.
Store in an airtight container.
Enjoy with yogurt, milk, or fresh fruit!
