Oh June, can you stay a little longer?

We spent last Sunday pottering about on our patio, planting and repotting, our hands dirty with soil. Later we rewarded ourselves with wine and good food. Also, what is up with the evening light these days? First, the stark shadows before everything starts to glow. I think it is this year that I realize that June must be my favourite month. The days are hot, but the heat is not yet sweltering. The city cools down at night. The air in the mornings is still fresh. The birds are at their loudest, singing their morning and evening songs while the swifts flit across the skies in between. The whole summer before us – the river swims and ice cream runs. The air is full of anticipation. Yet, I wish I could stop time right here, at this moment, to hold on to June for a little longer.
